The delegate of the Government in the Community of Madrid, Mercedes González, participated this Monday in the minute of silence called by the City of Madrid, together with the mayor José Luis Martínez-Almeida and the municipal political groups, as a sign of revulsion for the murder, allegedly due to gender violence, of a woman in the district of Puente de Vallecas, on December 28. Previously, Mercedes González has also attended the minute of silence called before the headquarters of the Government Delegation in Madrid. The 20-year-old victim had no sons or daughters and there were previous reports of gender-based violence against the alleged aggressor.
With the confirmation of this case, the number of women killed by gender violence in Spain amounts to 49 in 2022 – seven of them and a minor in the Community of Madrid – and to 1,182 since 2003, when data collection began.
