The services of the Media Distancia de Renfe trains in La Rioja were again won by travelers in 2024 compared to the previous year. The number of public rail service users in the Rioja community exceeded 200,000, which represented an increase of more than 8% compared to 2023.
Renfe’s Media Distancia relations between Logroño and Zaragoza and Miranda de Ebro recorded a total of 200,191 passengers in 2024, slightly more than an 8% increase over the 184,942 recorded in 2023.
The Renfe Media Distancia in La Rioja, a public rail service, allows you to travel between Logroño and Zaragoza and connects the Rioja municipalities of Agoncillo, Alcanadre, Calsalvo, Rincón de Soto and Alfaro. In addition, travelers from the Rioja community have Medium Distance seats on Long Distance trains to travel between Logroño and Miranda de Ebro.
This public service also allows you to link to Long Distance and High Speed services, through combined and guaranteed tickets, to travel from La Rioja to communities such as Catalonia, Madrid, Andalusia or the Basque Country.
The use of Renfe’s Media Distancia trains prevented in 2024 the use of 133,460 private vehicles and the emission into the atmosphere of 2,722 tons of CO2. Renfe uses carbon-neutral electric trains, that is, they do not emit CO2 or other polluting gases that cause the greenhouse effect and there are no emissions into the atmosphere when manufacturing that electricity.
