The Superior Police Headquarters of La Rioja presents a preventive campaign on the occasion of the celebration of the next festivities of San Mateo
The campaign focuses on two main areas, crimes against sexual freedom and abductions in large agglomerations.
From the Superior Headquarters a video has been prepared in which a series of recommendations are exposed in relation to the two areas previously exposed in the following url: http://prensa.policia.es/larioja.rar
Campaign prevention subtractions
In the field of subtractions in large agglomerations, the festivities are marked dates where there is a great confluence of people between residents and visitors who decide to know more about our Community, taking advantage of their holidays to enjoy the multitude of options and variety of sociocultural activities that are offered. It is also an opportunity for those criminals who have turned thefts into carelessness in their speciality and lifestyle, benefiting from the excess of relaxation and any moment of carelessness of their victims to remove some object of value.
From the Superior Headquarters there is information on the special care that must be taken in moments such as the rocket with a large agglomeration of people. Criminals take every opportunity for mobile phone theft in all kinds of events, after the theft, thieves immediately remove SIM cards from the phone and even have handbags/backpacks prepared to inhibit the signal of the mobiles. Many of them, within a few days of carrying out the different criminal acts, quickly leave our country, so locating and arresting them is very complicated.
Therefore, the Superior Leadership wants to emphasize some simple guidelines to prevent these criminals from appropriating the belongings of others:
- Keep your belongings always in sight, avoiding leaving them on the tables or counters of the establishments you visit.
- Don’t carry the backpack bag on your back, but hang it from the front and be perfectly closed
- Do not carry your mobile phone in a case hanging around your neck because there are criminals who cut the cord
- Do not carry belongings or mobile phones in the back pockets of the trousers or in the front of the shirts
- It is advisable to use anti-theft or indoor safety wristbands that have the closure buckle on the front of the body
- Do not lose sight of personal belongings in pubs, terraces, bars and restaurants
- Carry the bag perfectly closed and with the zipper on the front; carry in the wallet the minimum money essential
- -Do not leave valuables in sight in vehicles
- Distrust so-called “help” or the friendly approach of unknown people as they will try to distract you in order to rob you.
- In banking institutions, extreme precautionary measures, especially when withdrawing money from the window or the ATM. If you notice anything unusual, do not take the money out. We will avoid taking the cash out in ATMs located on the public highway, it is better to do it in those located inside the ATMs and try to do it whenever we can accompany.
- Pay special attention to the carelessers or people who put themselves behind a possible victim and with papers, a map or some object that makes them a screen (crutch), open their bag or wallet to subtract their personal effects.
- It is advisable to carry the mobile phone, especially at times like the Rocket, inside the clothes and try to take it out as little as possible. Just like the most important money and documentation, we can put it in an inner kidney bowl, which is very discreet and more difficult for the friends of others to access. In addition, they advise you to configure the settings of your phone to be able to recover it in case of loss or theft:
- Enter the IMEI number to be able to contribute in the report (can be found in the phone box or by pressing *#06#)
- Create a backup of the phone’s information; always keep it locked with an access pattern or password;
- Activate the location; have an email account linked to the terminal and activate in the security settings the “Find My Device” function, as well as the “Offline Search” and “Send Last Location” functions; and to prevent thieves from activating the “Airplane Mode”, activate the “Secure Lock Setting” tool.
For any suspicions, do not hesitate to call the National Police phone 091, available 24 hours a day.
Campaign against aggression
In the area of crimes against sexual freedom, measures of prevention, sensitization, visibility and dissemination of videos for awareness and prevention will be carried out, which will be distributed in the playful and festive environment.
The local festivities are ideal spaces to launch this initiative, given that in the playful and festive context in which they take place, it is where the perfect circumstances are given to mask the sexual assaults on young people, with the excuse that they are festive environments in which it seems that “everything is allowed”; the consumption of alcohol and other circumstances make sexual violence in these contexts the violence that is least reported, being the most questioned and the most difficult to demonstrate.
Below are a number of tips for different circumstances that may occur:
If you meet someone you don't know this Christmas...
- It stays in a public place with more people, especially if you stay for the first time.
- If you are alone, tell someone you know who you are with and send them a location.
- Avoid going alone or alone on foot trips through poorly lit and poorly traveled places.
- Always react to the first feeling of discomfort. If you can walk away and ask for help.
- Never lose sight of your drink, they could manipulate it by putting drugs inside it.
- Don’t get into someone you’ve just met or go into their home, even if they seem trustworthy. If you are left alone or alone, it is preferable that you call someone you know, no matter what time it is.
If you think you are in danger of experiencing sexual assault or abuse...
- Run away!”
- If you can’t, try to defend yourself.
- Make as much noise as possible, someone can hear you and will ask for help.
- Let the people around you know.
- Call the National Police 091
