The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has ceded to the City of Tirgo, in La Rioja, the ownership of a three-kilometre-long stretch of the N-232A road, After investing more than one million euros in adapting the road to the transit of pedestrians and improving its urban integration as it passes through the town of Riojana.
The stretch is located between kilometers 455 and 458 and has an estimated area of 44,245.32 m2, which includes the area that affects the infrastructure including all the roads, sidewalks and islets defined in the humanization project.
Through the action, financed with the European funds NextGenerationEU within the framework of the Recovery Plan, the width of the lanes has been reduced to calm traffic and achieve a greater surface on pavements, which have been equipped with corks with trees and benches, to promote pedestrian mobility; all this in order to improve the integration of the road in the urban space, promoting active mobility, and reducing the spaces dedicated to cars.
The transfer took effect on July 22, following a resolution by the Secretary of State for Transport and Sustainable Mobility. This transfer does not affect the continuity of the State road network or its functionality, since this section has acquired the status of an urban road and has no function of service to long-distance traffic.
This change of ownership does not entail any transfer of capital, nor does it generate economic obligations or expenditure for the General Administration of the State.
Thus, the City of Tirgo assumes ownership of the section of the N-232A and spaces reviewed, with all its auxiliary elements and equipment, being from the day of the resolution reviewed, owner of these and consequently responsible for their conservation, defense and exploitation.
The transfer of ownership has been carried out under Order TMA/1160/2021, of October 8, which establishes the framework for the conclusion of delivery agreements to the city councils of urban roads of the state network.
