The campaign carried out by the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) in La Rioja, between March 11 and 17, on the use of the safety belt and child restraint systems (SRI) concludes with 4,866 vehicles and 10,128 controlled occupants, which shows that 116 drivers and passengers do not use these devices.
In total, of the 4,866 controlled drivers in La Rioja, 35 did not use it. With regard to the controlled passengers, 5,262 people, 81 of them did not use the safety belt. Of these passengers, 389 were under 135 cm or less and 7 did not wear a belt or SRI.
The objective of this campaign, in which the Traffic Agents of the Civil Guard in La Rioja and the local police of Alfaro, Lardero, Logroño and Santo Domingo de la Calzada participated, was to raise awareness of the importance of the use of the safety belt and child restraint systems, in order to prevent injuries caused when an accident or traffic incident is suffered or reduce the severity of them.
