The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA), through the State Commercial Society of Agrarian Infrastructures (SEIASA), has today formalized in Logroño two addenda for which it will invest 35,585,000 euros (VAT not included) of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan Phase II, in the modernization of 3,693 hectares of irrigation in La Rioja.
The Delegate of the Government in La Rioja, Beatriz Arraiz Nalda, among other authorities, has attended the signing.
The president of SEIASA, has signed a first addendum with the president of the Community of Irrigators Stretch II of the Left Margin Channel of the
Najerilla (La Rioja), Ángel Manzanares Martínez, to carry out the “Project of modernization of the irrigation of the CR of Stretch II of the Channel of the Left Margin of the Najerilla (La Rioja)”, which will involve an investment of 28,735,000 euros (VAT not included).
The modernization, which will have a marked environmental component and use of new technologies, will act on an area of 2,744 hectares in the municipalities of Alesanco, Badarán, Canillas de Río Tuerto, Azofra, Nájera, Cordovín, Cárdenas, Torrecilla sobre Alesanco, Hormilla and Hormilleja and will benefit 2,093 irrigators in an area where vineyard cultivation predominates, along with cereal, horticultural and fruit cultivation.
Secondly, Rodríguez Mulero has signed an addendum with the president of the Community of Irrigators of the Channel of the Right Margin of the Najerilla at the T.M. by Cenicero, Roberto Frías Iruzubieta, for which the “Project of integral modernization of the irrigated area of the Canal of the Right Margin of the Najerilla in the T.M. de Cenicero (La Rioja)” will have a budget of 6,850,0000 euros (VAT not included).
In this case, the action will benefit an area of 949 hectares in the municipality of Cenicero and 509 irrigators, in an area whose majority cultivation is the vineyard.
RESOURCE OPTIMIZATION, RENEWABLES AND TELECONTROL
The goal of modernization in both cases is the optimization of water and energy resources through the installation of pressurized irrigation systems with remote control, self-consumption photovoltaic facilities for pumping and the construction of regulation and storage ponds that allow better management of resources.
The new infrastructure will make it possible to optimize the use of available water resources, ensuring the viability of agriculture by reducing production costs, promoting the use of renewable energies by eliminating the use of fossil and emission energies and facilitating generational relief by improving the quality of life of farmers.
The addenda signed today will allow an increase of 10,854,826.47 euros (VAT not included) in the initial budget for the modernization of both irrigated areas to deal with the increase in prices derived from the situation of the markets and the generalized increase in the costs of raw materials and materials in the last year.
All the actions of the PRTR’s “Plan for Irrigation Efficiency and Sustainability” are co-financed by Next Generation funds of the European Union and their public-private nature means that the public contribution will be a maximum of 80% of the cost of the eligible expenses, while the communities of irrigators and users subject to the action, will contribute the rest. The works must be completed before 2026.
77 MILLION INVESTMENT IN LA RIOJA
The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food has planned for the Autonomous Community of La Rioja an investment through SEIASA of 77 million euros (VAT not included) to execute a total of eight actions of modernization of sustainable irrigation.
