At the end of September 2024, La Rioja reached the record of 1,633 police officers available in the autonomous community, a figure that represents a positive variation of 11.6% compared to 2017, when 1,463 officers were assigned in the region. Specifically, the number of national police officers stood at 308 (30 more than in 2017) and 1,325 civil guards (140 more than seven years ago).
According to the Crime Balance for September 2024, the total crime recorded by the police in the Autonomous Community has stood at a rate of 37.3, which is 4 tenths less than 12 months ago. With this data, La Rioja remained as the fourth safest autonomous community, 14.5 points below the national average, which stood at 51.8.
This Crime Balance shows the evolution of criminal offences registered by the National Police and Civil Guard in La Rioja. As a statistical novelty, and to have a better X-ray to deal with this phenomenon, it includes a specific breakdown on cybercrime. This statistical effort provides more complete information in line with the real evolution of crime.
From January to September 2024, the State Security Forces learned of a total of 9,041 criminal offences in La Rioja, according to the Crime Report, published on the website of the Ministry of the Interior. In this same period in 2023, the figure amounted to 9,158, being the variation of -1.3%.
In the breakdown by conventional crime and cybercrime, both recorded a decrease this year: conventional from 7,369 crimes from January to September 2023 to 7,318 in the same period of 2024 (variation of -0.7%) and cybercrime, from 1,789 to 1,723 (-3.7%).
On the other hand, the subtractions in agricultural or livestock farms have registered a significant decrease of -31.4%: compared to 172 until September 2023 to 118 in 2024.
As for the percentage of clarified criminal offenses, in September the percentage was recorded as 42%, which represents a slight increase with respect to the data recorded at the end of 2023, which was 43.1% of the known crimes.
For its part, the rate of detainees for every 1,000 criminal offences has gone from 307 at the end of 2023 to 292 in the third quarter of this year.
Logroño and Calsalvo
This crime balance provides a collection of data on criminal offences recorded in localities with a population of over 20,000 inhabitants.
With regard to the crime data recorded from January to September 2024 in the Rioja capital, the crime rate was 36.9, which is 3 tenths below 2023 (37.2).
In the first nine months of this year, in Logroño there was a -3.7% conventional crime compared to the same period of 2023 (3,429 crimes in 2023 and 3,301 in 2024). On the contrary, cybercrime has increased, registering an increase of 10.7%: compared to 775 from 2023 to 858 in 2024.
For its part, the crime rate in Calsalvo increases with respect to the end of 2023, from 56.7 to 58.6. Compared to the same period from January to September 2023 and 2024, conventional crime increased by 6.6% (906 last year and 996 in 2024), while cybercrime decreased by -9.4 (149 in 2023 compared to 135).
