Special Operation Constitution-Immaculate Traffic 2024
The Directorate General of Traffic (DGT) will activate a special surveillance and security device from Thursday 5 to Sunday 8 December.
The Provincial Traffic Headquarters of La Rioja launches the Special Operation “Constitution-Immaculate 2024 with the aim of ensuring the safety and fluidity of traffic during one of the periods with the highest volume of travel of the year. Approximately 66,000 vehicles are expected to transit on Rioja’s roads.
Days and times of greatest traffic intensity:
- Thursday, December 5: from 16:00 to 22:00 h.
- Friday, December 6: from 9:00 to 14:00 h.
- Saturday, December 7: from 16:00 to 22:00 h.
- Sunday, December 8: from 15:00 to 22:00 h.
Special measures:
During the hours considered to be of greater intensity of circulation or, as the case may be, on all the days included in the Operation, the holding of sports events, except those of an international nature that may be appropriate, will not be authorized or reported favourably.
The total suspension of works in the execution phase will be requested on the days considered to be of greater intensity of circulation or, where appropriate, on all the days, that affect both the circulation platform and its area of influence.
As far as monitoring is concerned, as many troops as possible from the ATGC Monitoring Forces, as well as personnel from the Helicopter Patrol and Traffic Management Centres, will be available.
The collaboration of the Local Police will be requested for the control of access to the populations where they are assigned and exercise surveillance.
Accident history
In last year’s operation (2023), two accidents involving victims on interurban roads were recorded, resulting in two minor injuries.
Safety recommendations for drivers:
- Plan the trips in advance, avoiding the hours of greater traffic.
- Respect the speed limits and maintain the safety distance.
- Avoid distractions at the wheel and ensure that all occupants wear safety belts or helmets in the case of motorcycles.
- Do not consume alcohol or drugs before driving.
- Pay special attention in the last kilometers of the journey.
The DGT recalls that road safety is a shared responsibility and that, with responsible driving, it is possible to significantly reduce road accidents.
