The Directorate General of Traffic (DGT) has completed the special campaign of control and surveillance of distractions at the wheel, carried out between 7 and 13 October 2024.
During this period, a total of 8,652 vehicles were controlled by the Civil Guard and various local police in La Rioja, of which 135 drivers (1.56%) were reported for violating distraction-related road safety regulations.
On interurban roads, the Civil Guard controlled 4,509 vehicles, issuing 64 complaints (1.41%), while the local police supervised 4,143 vehicles, of which 71 were sanctioned (1.71%).
Mobile misuse was the main cause of the infractions, with 29 complaints, representing 40.8% of the total. In addition, other infractions were detected, such as the use of headphones (8.5%) and other behaviors that compromised road safety, covering 47.9% of the complaints.
This campaign highlights the importance of raising awareness about the dangers of distractions at the wheel, which remain one of the main causes of accidents in the region.
