The reinforcement of coordination between bodies and the empowerment of new resources have been the guiding thread of the Local Security Board held this morning in the City of Logroño, presided over by the Mayor, Conrado Escobar, and the delegate of the Government, Beatriz Arraiz.
The Mayor of Logroño highlighted “the collaboration that is established between both administrations to ensure that the city’s festivities have the optimal levels of security”. With regard to the Local Police, he said that “the agreement reached recently will allow for a greater presence of troops on the street”.
Conrado Escobar has also placed the emphasis on the most direct coordination that will be established between the National and Local police forces. This aspect will be reinforced by sharing stations between the street patrols of both bodies, which will allow direct talk between the agents without having to go through a switchboard, thus gaining effectiveness and responsiveness. In addition, this collaboration will be reflected in the joint realization of alcohol, drug and safety controls.
With regard to the availability of new resources, it is expected that the device’s personnel will include civilian agents in mass events, such as the launch of the rocket. This aims to prevent crimes, robberies and situations of sexual assault. In addition, mobile citizen tracking cameras will be implemented in critical areas.
The device enabled by the Local Police will have 180 agents distributed in three shifts on holidays, which will pass to 140/150 agents on working days.
For her part, the delegate stressed that “one more year, it is planned that Logroño will have the full operational force of the National Police Force of La Rioja”. In this way, the special security mechanism of San Mateo has provided for the National Police to have 350 officers to ensure public safety in the capital of Rioja and prevent any kind of disturbance of public order caused by the expected increase in influx during those holidays.
“The main objective of this device is prevention and, where appropriate, reaction to any situation that may alter the security of citizens,” said Arraiz Nalda. To this end, the operation provides for uniformed and civilian officers of the National Police to carry out patrols to prevent crimes or administrative violations.
To celebrate the shooting of the rocket, the National Police will work together with the Local Police with civilian and uniformed agents to ensure that this event takes place without incident. In addition, the Air Safety team will fly over the Town Hall square and its surroundings with a helicopter, as well as work with drones to control the safety and avoid the intrusion of possible unmanned aircraft. As in other years, the Tedax will carry out preventive work with the revision of urban furniture.
In addition, a subgroup of the Intervention Units (IPU) and agents of the Prevention and Reaction Unit (UPR) will be deployed in the area, with the mission of acting in the cases of prevention and imminent danger or serious alteration of citizen security.
Throughout the Old Town, both foot and motorcycle patrols will be distributed to ensure public order and reaction points will be available for any problems that may arise.
On the other hand, the National Police has planned that the Canine Guides Unit will be present in different areas of the city to prevent the menuding of drugs, as well as agents of the Mobile Brigade in the bus and train station to control the documentation of travelers in the means of transport in the face of the expected increase of travelers during San Mateo.
Likewise, the Cavalry Unit will work in those events in which more concentration of people is expected, such as in the celebration of bullfights. The agents of the National Police will carry out anti-terrorist and crime prevention patrols during the celebration of the cowboys, the fires and the competition of floats, working in collaboration with the agents of the Local Police of Logroño.
This collaboration between police officers will be extended to alcohol controls, in which the National Police will carry out citizen security tasks, intervention of drugs and prohibited weapons.
For all these reasons, the delegate of the Government has insisted that “the National Police Force is prepared so that these festivities of San Mateo go without problem.” In this regard, he recalled that “we must bear in mind that the Security Forces and Corps are always at the disposal of citizens and, faced with the possible commission of crimes, we recommend that people remain vigilant in situations with more influx of people and adopt precautionary measures that avoid theft or situations of insecurity”.
