The general director of the Civil Guard, María Gámez, announced this morning that Logroño is the city chosen this year to celebrate the central acts of the Patron Saint of the Corps, the Virgen del Pilar. Last year, the celebration of the Patron of the Corps took place in León.
The announcement took place after having a first preparatory meeting - in the Government Delegation in La Rioja - between María Gámez and other Civil Guard commanders with the Logroño authorities.
The CEO has been “delighted” that the central events will be held this year in Logroño, “since it is undoubtedly the best scenario to show our history and our vocation of public service”.
The celebration of the Patroness of the Civil Guard is scheduled to begin on October 2 with the traditional Flag Raising and will last for a week in which there will be different activities for all audiences and ages.
It is expected that a day focused on equality will be designed, since this year it commemorates the 35th anniversary of the incorporation of women in the Civil Guard, as well as some activity related to the Air Service and the Explosives Deactivation and Defense Service NRBQ, in which 50 years of its creation are celebrated.
During the day, the general director of the Civil Guard held a meeting with the president of the Government of La Rioja, Concha Andreu; the delegate of the Government, Beatriz Arraiz; and the mayor of Logroño, Pablo Hermoso de Mendoza.
The General Director stressed the importance of this festival “which every year strives so that both its central acts and those that take place in each Command, have the appropriate emphasis because it is a party of fellowship”. “The Civil Guard opens its doors to get even closer to the society it serves and, of course, it is a date that also serves as a tribute to the men and women civil guards who have died in the act of service,” said Gámez.
He has also pointed out that the Civil Guard has a very special relationship with Logroño and La Rioja. “It is a territory with a very powerful presence of the Civil Guard, with a large number of agents who have settled over the years and have created their home here,” said the general director of the Civil Guard. Not only because of the existence of the Zone, but also because of the GAR (Rapid Action Group) from its very origin – at the beginning of the 80s of the last century – and the Special Training Center (CAE), under the umbrella of the UAR.
