The government delegate warns that the reduction of indebtedness by 20%, thanks to this measure of the central executive, “contributes to cleaning up the autonomous accounts, so that the Community can invest more in essential areas such as education, health or social services”
Rodríguez Badal aplaude la condonación de 1.741 M€ de deuda e insta al Govern a apoyarla en el Consejo de Política Fiscal
The government delegate in the Balearic Islands, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, has applauded the proposal of the Spanish Executive that the State assume 1,741 million euros of the regional debt, which would reduce it by 20% on the record of 2023. Rodríguez Badal has stressed that it is “an unprecedented measure, with which citizens win” and, therefore, has urged the Balearic Government to support the initiative of the Ministry of Finance in the Fiscal and Financial Policy Council on Wednesday.
“We cannot give up on improving the economic resources that will strengthen the public services received by the citizens of the islands, and this is what will make possible the cancellation of debt proposed by the Government,” warns the delegate, who stresses that, in this way, “the State contributes to cleaning up the accounts of the Autonomous Community, which will be able to invest more money in essential areas such as education, health or social services.” “It would be incomprehensible if the interests of Balearic citizens were not chosen,” he added.
With the cancellation, the autonomies will be able to correct the over-indebtedness to which they were forced during the financial crisis. This is another step in the strengthening of the State of the autonomies, which seeks that the territories release resources destined until now for the payment of debt to dedicate them to public services, benefiting the citizens. To calculate the amount corresponding to each community, the Government of Spain has applied technical and equal criteria for all, such as the adjusted population, the level of indebtedness assumed during the financial crisis or the fiscal effort.
