The Government will extend throughout the year 2025 the aid to the CAIB for the free bus and train in Balears
The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility will extend the grant to the Autonomous Community throughout 2025 so that it can make free public land transport in the Balears for people who use the train and bus service in the islands. In this way, the Government maintains the aid that, on an exceptional basis, has been allocated since 2023 to the two archipelagos in recognition of insularity. The measure will hopefully be approved next Monday in the Council of Ministers.
The government delegate to the Balearic Islands, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, said that this is “a further demonstration of the important effort, the largest in history, that this government is carrying out during the current legislature to support public transport”. In particular, according to the Ministry of Transport, state investment in aid in this area has increased fourfold since 2018.
The grant for free public transport approved in 2023 was aimed at promoting the use of public transport in citizen mobility, in a context of high energy and fuel prices. In the specific case of Balears, the Executive has allocated 43 million euros per year to help users of the intercity bus and the train to benefit from the free provision of these services, which are of regional competence, on the islands.
