The Government Delegation in the Balearic Islands, through its Coordination Unit against Violence against Women, organizes on October 24 and 25 the I Conference on Sexual Violence, which on this occasion is entitled “Digital pornography: gateway to prostitution”. The event will take place in the auditorium of the Son Lledó Building on the university campus and will be inaugurated by the Secretary of State for Equality and for the Eradication of Violence against Women, Aina Calvo; the government delegate, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, and the rector of the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB), Jaume Carot.
In its first edition, these days, which can also be followed by streaming, will address, with the help of experts from different fields, the impact of online consumption of pornography by adolescents on the formation of attitudes and behaviors and how this distorts their perception of sexuality. In addition to the presentations of specialists, the program includes the presentation of the study “Only Fans. A whitewashed space of the sex business”, by Laura Barrios, president of the Federation of Young Women of the Observatory of Sexual Violence. Two round tables will also be developed; one of them, with the participation of representatives of the Fiscal Ministry, National Police, Civil Guard, the Spanish Data Protection Agency (AEPD) and the National Cybersecurity Institute (INCIBE), and the second, dedicated to the use of language in audiovisual media.
All these proposals aim to contribute to the understanding of a phenomenon that has become a serious concern for families and education professionals, and that today constitutes a State issue.
On the other hand, the audience that attends in person will be able to enjoy the monologues “Porn and prostitution look for girls from the crowd”, by the humorist and playwright Patricia Sornosa, and “That is not sex”, by Marina Marroquí, social educator and specialist in Gender Violence.
The 1st Conference on Sexual Violence is supported by the Ministry of Territorial Policy and the Ministry of Equality, through the State Pact against Gender Violence, as well as with the collaboration of the UIB, through its Office for Equal Opportunities between Women and Men.
