The Government Delegation clarifies that the delay in the restitution of the Cala en Porter torrent is not the responsibility of Demarcación de Costas
Faced with the accusations made publicly against the Demarcation of Coasts for the alleged blockade of the restitution of Cala en Porter (Alaior), unused by the effect of the storm that struck the archipelago two weeks ago, the Government Delegation in the Balearic Islands is forced to clarify that it is up to the Autonomous Community to carry out the work of recovery of the torrent and that the request for report and authorization by the Balearic Government to the General Directorate of Coasts and Littoral took place last Friday, 23, more than seven days after the events and without this procedure being mandatory or binding for the autonomous administration to fulfill its functions.
The Government of Spain is sensitive to the consequences that this storm has had for the neighbors and those responsible for the establishments affected and, as always in these circumstances, has shown itself alongside the citizens. Thus, from the first moment, emergency measures were deployed with the aim of minimizing their impact, which made it possible to protect human lives and, in a second phase, it has activated the process so that the affected areas can access economic aid from the State for their restitution, which is foreseen through the declaration of areas seriously affected by a civil protection emergency.
The Government Delegation deeply regrets the damage caused by the storm to people living or working in the area of Cala en Porter, as well as to others affected by the impact of the storm in other areas of Mallorca and the Pitiüses. At the same time, and in view of the public accusations against the work of Demarcación de Costas, it considers it necessary to clarify that the Regional Administration is the competent body to resolve the situation denounced by the mayor and that, therefore, it was authorized to act from the outset to restore the torrent and the beach damaged by the storm of last day 15, without the Government of Spain being able to prohibit or authorize such intervention.
