Maria Duran and Homes per la Igualtat receive the recognition Meninas 2023 from the Government Delegation in the Balearic Islands
The collective Homes per la Igualtat de Mallorca and the jurist Maria Duran received this Thursday the recognition Meninas 2023, for their work in favor of the eradication of gender violence in the Balearic Islands. The government delegate to the islands, Aina Calvo, has presented the distinctions, which are awarded on the occasion of the commemoration of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, on November 25.
Since 2013, these honorific awards have been granted to individuals, groups, entities and institutions that are outstanding in the prevention and fight against male violence and in the care, assistance, protection and recovery of victims.
Since 2013, the association Homes per la Igualtat has been working in favor of equal rights between men and women and against gender violence in any of its forms and manifestations, with the aim of building new models of coexistence and understanding masculinity. Among the many activities they promote is the annual Words for Equality cycle, to promote the use of non-sexist language. Its president, Miquel Àngel Lladó, was in charge of collecting the recognition, at the event held this morning at the headquarters of the Government Delegation in the Balearic Islands.
Maria Duran Febrer is one of the pioneering Spanish jurists in the fight against violence against women in the field of justice. Born in Manacor, she is a member of the commission of the Ministry of Justice for the Incorporation of the Gender Perspective in the Criminal Procedure Law and participated in the drafting of the first proposal of a Comprehensive Law against Gender Violence, which was approved in 2004.

The delegate of the Government has highlighted the valuable example and the "essential" role of Homes per la Igualtat and Maria Duran in their trajectory of fighting discrimination and violence against women, and has encouraged all citizens and institutions and entities to follow this example, and "to continue firmly and without excuses to practice zero tolerance", in the face of gender violence.
The event, held at the headquarters of the Government Delegation in Palma, was attended by officials of the State Security Forces and Corps in the islands; the director of IBDona, Catalina Salom; the Island Director of Families of the Island Council of Mallorca, Maria Garrido, as well as other representatives of both institutions, family and friends of the honorees.
