The Penitentiary Centre of Mallorca delivers its decorations on the occasion of the Merced festival
The Penitentiary Center of Mallorca has delivered its decorations on the occasion of the commemoration of the feast of Our Lady of Mercy, in an act that took place this Tuesday in the Assembly Hall of the institution. These distinctions aim to recognize and highlight the relevant activities carried out by the staff at the service of the penitentiary administration. For the first year after Covid 19, the celebration has been unrestricted.
Thus, the Silver Medal of Correctional Merit has been awarded to Maria Auxiliadora Domenge Blanco, a social worker of the center since 34 and who, with this award, is recognized for her work in a task as important as the relationships between inmates and their relatives and relatives. In addition, two bronze Correctional Merit Medals have been awarded to Raquel Jiménez Cortés, Deputy Director of Treatment for 12 years, and Aurora García Vera, a retired midwife with more than 40 years of dedication to the care of pregnant inmates in the Penitentiary Center and the Social Insertion Center (CIS) of Palma.
In addition, during the event, honorable mentions were given to three heads of services and three internal service coordinators, as well as to civil servants who have served 25 years in the penitentiary institution.
The commemoration of the festivity of La Merced was attended by the director of the Penitentiary Center of Mallorca, Francisco José Baldonedo, the director of the CIS-Unity of Mothers of Mallorca, Inmaculada Torres, and the delegate of the Government, Aina Calvo, who highlighted “the important social work that is carried out in this center and that contributes to ensuring the coexistence between people in complex circumstances, such as the deprivation of liberty, and facilitates their reintegration, which is one of the objectives of the penitentiary institution.”
For his part, Francisco José Baldonedo, has highlighted the “extraordinarily important task for the security of all” that the penitentiary institution performs, not only as responsible for the custody of people who have to fulfill a deprivation of liberty by judicial mandate, but also for their involvement in their reintegration process. Baldonedo has stressed that these are “citizens who continue to be part of the society to which they will return, after paying their debts with justice.”
The event, in which the director of the Center for Social Insertion – Mothers Unit of Mallorca, Inmaculada Torres, also spoke, was attended by representatives of the State Security Forces and Bodies, the Army and the judiciary and local authorities.
