Mitma initiates the public information of the project of Royal Decree that regulates the granting of a subsidy for the development of the tram in the bay of Palma
The Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda (Mitma) has started the public information process of the project of Royal Decree regulating the direct granting of a subsidy of up to 185 million euros to the Autonomous Community of the Balearic Islands for the development of the tram in the bay of Palma.
Today the initiative has been published on the Mitma website, which will be available to the public for a period of seven days in order to give an audience to the affected citizens and obtain as many additional contributions as can be made by other people or entities.
This grant, which will be financed from the Mitma Expenditure Budget, is part of the General Protocol of Action between the Ministry and the Autonomous Community for the development of the tram in the Bay of Palma, signed on November 10, 2022, which establishes the general framework of action to coordinate the collaboration between the signatory parties in the development of the tram project in the Bay of Palma.
The tram of Palma Bay
The Balearic Government, by virtue of its competences in this field, pursues the improvement of mobility in the Balearic Islands and, to that end, has drawn up a Sectoral Mobility Master Plan, whose ultimate objectives are to guarantee accessibility in public transport throughout the territory, reduce pollution caused by mobility, reduce accidents and minimize energy consumption.
This Master Plan includes, within its scope, the proposal for the implementation of a tram line in the bay of Palma, which consists of three sections:
- Section I: Plaza de España (Intermodal) – Can Pastilla – Airport
- Stretch II. Can Pastilla - s’Arenal.
- Section III: Plaza de España (intermodal) – Son Espases (hospital)
The construction of the various sections of the line will be carried out in succession, starting with Section I, which is the section subject to this subsidy.
This stretch consists of a double track, which runs on the surface in its entirety and has a length of about 10,880 m. The route will unite, with a total of 16 stops, the Plaza España and the avenues with the neighborhoods of Foners, Nou Llevant, El Molinar, Ciutat Jardí, Coll d’en Rabassa i Can Pastilla, until reaching the Airport.
The subsequent operation of the line will be carried out by the Balearic Government through the implementation of various services according to the demand and needs of each of the areas of implementation.
