The Government’s deputy delegate in Lugo, Olimpia López, highlighted today in Trabada the Government’s commitment to new farmers and ranchers by offering training stays in model farms throughout Spain with the Cultiva Program, which has a budget of 1.2 million euros from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food. “The Government maintains a clear commitment to the primary sector, fundamental to our province, capable of generating employment and boosting the economy, while helping to establish population in our municipalities,” said López during a visit to an agricultural farm in Trabada that participates in this state plan.
The deputy delegate, accompanied by the mayor of Trabada, Rubén García, explained that this program of the Ministry of Agriculture aims to offer, the agricultural professionals holding up to 40 years of age and for those over 41 who settled in the last five years, practical training of 5 to 14 days in model farms, “where they have the opportunity to acquire and consolidate knowledge on technical and management aspects that they will then apply in the development of their own agricultural activity.”
Thus, Breogán and Sergio are the owners of a vegetable garden dedicated to horticultural production under the parameters of organic agriculture. Most of their production is sold in shops very close to the Fornea, the village in which they created their cooperative. Next May they expect to receive an applicant who wants to make their stay within the plan with them.
During the meeting, Olimpia López encouraged all interested parties to make their request before September 15, which ends the deadline, and highlighted this type of initiatives that “show the commitment of the Government of Pedro Sánchez to the agricultural sector, favoring the incorporation of young people and promoting their professionalization, with the main objective of responding to one of the most relevant challenges we currently face, the generational relief”.
Regarding the Culture Program, the subdelegate added that the Government is responsible for the costs of accommodation, maintenance and transportation of participants in the training sessions. The province of Trabada includes 22 model farms located in A Pontenova, Chantada, Friol, Carballedo, Ribeira de Piquín, O Incio, Ribadeo, Becerreá, Vilalba, Outeiro de Rei, Triacastela, O Corgo, Pantón, Mondoñedo, Begonte and Negueira de Muñiz. In each one there is a training manager responsible for transmitting, from their experience and types of production, practical and technical knowledge that young people can then apply on their farms.
