Olimpia López, deputy delegate of the Government in Lugo, participated this afternoon in the conference “Building support networks in the rural area for women and families”, held in the Pobra de San Xiao, in the City of Láncara. The meeting addressed prevention and care for victims of gender violence.
During her speech, Olimpia López warned of the additional difficulties that women who suffer gender violence in rural areas can face, such as distance to services, lack of transport, economic dependence or fear of their situation being known. In this regard, he stressed the need to ensure that all victims have access to care and protection resources, regardless of their place of residence.
The subdelegate thanked Fademur for its work to give visibility to the needs of rural women and stressed the importance of training the professionals involved in these situations. He also defended the coordination between administrations, social services, health personnel, security forces and bodies and social entities to offer an effective and respectful response to the victims.
The Government’s deputy delegate placed special emphasis on the protection of boys and girls living with situations of gender-based violence and recalled that they also need specific attention and support.
“Building support networks means reducing the distance separating a person who suffers from someone who dares to ask for help,” he told Olimpia López, who called for shared responsibility so that “no woman, wherever she lives, feels that she has to face a situation of violence alone.”
