The subdelegate of the Government in Lugo, Olimpia López, today highlighted “the role and leadership of women in the field and their undeniable contribution to the agricultural sector” and highlighted the commitment of the Government of Spain, through “laws and public policies”, to real equality between men and women and to organizations “that make society as a whole grow”.
During the inauguration of the IV Forum Activists for Rural, organized by the Lence Group, with its president Carmen Lence at the head, Olimpia López recalled that “Lugo is one of the provinces with greater rural character in Spain and the agricultural sector tea a great importance in our economy” and added that “we cannot talk about an advanced society as long as women continue to find more obstacles and as long as there is no presence of the countryside in the public agenda”.
The deputy delegate stressed that the rural world has been facing complex challenges for decades. “We therefore need to place this sector at the centre of our activity, together with the skilled and educated women we have.” In this way, he added, “the Government of Spain will always be supporting meetings where women occupy the same spaces and exercise power in the same way that our colleagues do.”
Finally, López concluded by praising the role of activism and initiatives “in which women share experiences and work in networks, making society as a whole grow”, such as the II Rural Activists Observatory, presented at the Forum. In this sense, he added, “you will have the institutional collaboration to advance a more egalitarian, fairer Galicia with more opportunities for all”.
