The deputy delegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, attended this morning the act of celebration of the takeover of the new Commander of the Units of the Maritime Action Force in Ferrol (COMARFER), the captain of Fragata José Manuel De Mata Hervás, who also assumes the functions of Naval Commander of the cities of Ferrol and A Coruña.
The new command replaces the also captain of Fragata Javier García Yáñez, who will go on to occupy another destination. During his time in Ferrol, Captain García Yáñez stood out for his capacity for institutional coordination and for his dedication to public service. “On behalf of the Government of Spain, I would like to express our deepest gratitude for his exemplary work at the head of COMARFER and wish him the greatest success in his new professional stage,” said María Rivas.
The deputy delegate welcomed José Manuel De Mata Hervás and highlighted the extensive operational and management experience of the new commander, with a trajectory that includes commands on different ships and responsibilities in strategic planning bodies of the Navy. “We have a prepared and committed command, with direct knowledge of naval needs and a solid training that will be key to continue strengthening the presence and work of the Navy where necessary,” he said.
The Control of the Maritime Action Force Units of Ferrol (MARFER) is the organic control of the Patrol Boats, Tugboats and Auxiliary Units with parking base in Galicia and the Diving Unit of Ferrol.
Curriculum of the new COMARFER
The frigate captain José Manuel De Mata Hervás joined the Navy in 1994 and received the office of Frigate's Lieutenant in 1997. He subsequently acceded to the Officers’ Scale by internal promotion, obtaining the office of Navío’s Lieutenant in 2004.
Throughout his career he embarked on various units, such as the high-altitude patrol boat “Alborán”, the logistic transport vessel “Martín Posadillo”, the landing vessel “Hernán Cortés” and the frigates “Navarra” and “Victoria”. He was also assigned to the General Staff of the Fleet Projection Group, in the Operations section. He was commander of the Maritime Action Ship “Lightning” and the patrol boat “Medas”, and second commander of the frigate “Santa María”.
On the ground, he worked in the Strategic Plans Section of the Navy General Staff and in the Preparation Section of the Fleet General Staff.
He holds a Military Staff Diploma, specializes in Combat Systems and possesses the skills of Amphibious and Expeditionary Operations and Tactical Action Officer (TAO-Y).
