The Government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, highlighted today the new impulse of the Government to Xacobeo 2027, with which it reinforces its commitment to Galicia, in this case through the declaration of special public interest of this celebration that comes from the approval of the Council of Ministers and that will ratify the Congress predictably next week. Pedro Blanco stressed the importance of this Holy Year as “a tourist and cultural engine of our country.”
The delegate pointed out the importance of this action of the Government in promoting the Xacobeo, as it will allow Galician tourism professionals to plan their strategy for the Holy Year. With this measure, “the Government dynamizes public-private collaboration in view of such a unique date”. Pedro Blanco expects a multiplication of opportunities for the sector, “since the Camino itself generates dynamism, but with these possibilities of attracting funds for the companies that are now opening up and the installation of the special tax regime that this declaration entails, the Xacobeo 2027 acquires an even more positive dimension for Galicia”.
Pedro Blanco highlighted the many actions that the Government is carrying out in favor of the Holy Year and of such an important sector as tourism in Galicia, betting on a sustainable and respectful way of working with the environment and with citizenship and with special attention to the rehabilitation of buildings, “such as the one that, without going any further, is being carried out in the Hostal de los Reis Católica or in the Pazo de Raxoi, both in the same Praza do Obradoiro, goal of the Camino, and that add up to about 40 million euros of investment”.
A continued impulse
The Government has amended the Royal Decree that regulated the direct granting of aid for the financing of the National Tourism Sustainability Plan in Xacobeo Destinations 2021, within the framework of the National Tourism Plan Xacobeo 21-22, which reaches 121 million euros of investment.
This means that the sustainability plan, with the aim of transforming the tourism system and improving it, extends the period of execution of the funds with which it is endowed (45 million euros of those 121 total) until May 30, 2026, as well as the justification period of one month, which becomes open until June 30 of the same year.
The delegate stressed in this regard that the Government has been betting for many years on the dynamization of Galician tourism and especially Xacobeo, as it did in the last event. “This government complies with the declaration for 2027, but its work is not a matter of a day, since it is firmly committed to culture, sustainable tourism and territorial development from the very day that Pedro Sánchez arrived in Moncloa.”
