The subdelegate of the Government in Ourense, Eladio Santos, coordinated the special security device for the festivities of the Christ of O Barco de Valdeorras, from September 12 to 15, which will have reinforcement patrols and will be coordinated by the Local Police. This was how it was established this morning at the Xunta Local de Seguridad held in the City Hall and also presided over by the mayor, Alfredo García.
The meeting was also attended by the Chief Lieutenant Colonel of the Ourense Civil Guard Command, Rafael Berguillo, as well as members of the Ship Stand; heads of the National Police and Local Police, and members of business associations. Together with them, Eladio Santos took the opportunity to call on the citizens to enjoy the holidays "responsibly and complying with the rules" so as not to regret any incident.
With respect, they discussed the departure of the 2025 Cycling Tour on September 10 that will complicate the traffic situation, so Santos called for minimizing the use of private vehicles as much as possible that day and hoped that the test will run in complete normality. They also agreed to a greater reinforcement of the Civil Guard, as usual, for the descent of the Sil, which coincides with the festivities of Christ.
In terms of crime statistics, the total number of prison offenses decreased in the first half of this year, compared to the same period last year, and the rate of clarification increased. Thus, Eladio Santos congratulated the Security Forces and Corps for their "rigorous and constant work" to keep the streets safe.
However, those present expressed concern about the specific increase in serious crimes against heritage, which agents attribute to problems of substance addiction. Therefore, Eladio Santos asked the Xunta to establish a unit for the prevention of additive behavior in the municipality, since it is the Administration that has the competences in health. "We are going to fight this problem that worries neighbors, neighbors and merchants. The Civil Guard has the order to increase efforts, but the union of other services is necessary to tackle the problem," he said.
In addition, the Local Security Board agreed to launch an information campaign to prevent thefts in establishments and homes and to try to locate all the perpetrators. The initiative aims to bring to the citizens a series of recommendations such as the installation of security cameras and alarms in shops and the need for citizen collaboration, for example, through the AlertCops app that allows to give information to the Security Forces and Corps anonymously.

Likewise, the Government’s deputy delegate expressed his concern about the increase in active cases of gender violence in the municipality, since there are currently 41, which means an increase of 9 with respect to the previous Local Security Board. In the province there are 562 active cases. "All the institutions have to work to make available to the victims all the necessary resources to help them get out of this situation," he said.
