The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, participated in the inauguration of the 6th Congress of the UGT-FICA A Mariña, held in Burela, where he highlighted the strategic role of the industry in the region and reaffirmed the commitment of the Government of Spain to its economic and social development.
During his speech, Pedro Blanco stressed that “we are living in times of transformation and uncertainty, in which it is more than ever necessary to have a strong, diversified and sustainable industrial fabric”. The delegate insisted that industry “is not only economy: it is identity, territorial cohesion and opportunities” and that talking about industry in the Mariña “is talking about fixing population and guaranteeing a dignified future for the new generations”.
Blanco recalled that the Government “was and will continue to be on the side of the region”, both in the processes of corporate restructuring and in the activation of public policies that support industrial modernization. In this regard, he mentioned the impact of the Recovery Plan, which already mobilized more than 4,000 million euros in Galicia for innovation, decarbonization and digitalization projects.
The delegate also acknowledged the fundamental role of the Mariña working class, which has been supporting key sectors such as shipbuilding, timber, canning and aluminum production for decades. “Here there is strength, capacity and hope. Mariña has a future and the Government of Spain will always be by her side,” he said.
The UGT-FICA A Mariña Congress, held under the slogan “Now more industry”, brought together trade union and institutional representatives from all over Galicia to discuss the challenges of the industrial sector in the region. Blanco closed his speech by thanking the union for its work and encouraging it to continue moving “together and together” towards a more just, sustainable and people-centred production model.
