The subdelegate of the Government in Ourense, Eladio Santos, informed on Wednesday to the Chalkboard of Galicia Cluster that the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge will promote the sustainable management of the chalkboard and promote the industry in the sector, as part of the strategic orientations of the road map with horizon 2050 that contemplates the draft of the Action Plan of Mineral Raw Materials 2025-2029.
This was transferred to a meeting in the Subdelegation of the Government in Ourense, attended by the president of the Cluster of the Pizarra of Galicia, Eliseo López; the former president and member of the entity, Víctor Cobo, and the manager, Severino González, to explain their demands to the subdelegate.
At the meeting, Eladio Santos explained that the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge considers the slate sector as a strategic sector, since Spain is the first global producer of mushrooms. "One of the most important nuclei in its production is that of Valdeorras, so the Action Plan will benefit the entire region," he said.
In this regard, he explained that the strategic orientations of the road map are to seek efficiency and the circular economy in the value chains of the supply of mineral raw materials; promote and consolidate the sustainable management of raw materials in the extractive industry; focus on security of supply and compliance with environmental and social justice requirements in the import of mineral raw materials, and promote the mineral raw materials industry of a strategic nature for the energy and digital transition.
He also clarified that the draft Action Plan includes funding for several actions such as waste management and the recovery of areas affected by mining, among others. "This government is committed to the transformation of the extractive sector with the objective of protecting it and making it more sustainable," said the deputy delegate.
Lack of manpower
On the other hand, the Clúster de la Pizarra de Galicia conveyed to the subdelegate his concern about the lack of manpower in the sector. Therefore, Eladio Santos provided them with the protocols and procedures to follow for the possible hiring of foreign personnel at source. "These types of programs are a good solution to give employment to people who need it and provide labor to companies that create wealth in the province," he explained.
