The subdelegate of the Government in Ourense, Eladio Santos, presided on Wednesday the Local Security Board of Ourense that addressed the diagnosis of criminal statistics and finalized the security devices for the festivities of Corpus, the Rally of Ourense and other planned celebrations. After the meeting, he encouraged the citizens to enjoy the festivities "with prudence, security, and always complying with the rules".
The meeting was also attended by the Secretary General of the Government Subdelegation, Manuel Arias; the Councilor for Citizen Security of Ourense, José Ignacio González; the territorial delegate of the Xunta in Ourense, Manuel Pardo; the territorial director of Presidency, Justice and Sports, Beatriz Fernández; the member of the AA Federation. VV. Umbral Alberto Rivero; the president of the Neighborhood Associations Miño, Xosé Ramón Piñeiro; the president of the Ourense Open Shopping Center, Luis Rivera; the manager of the Ourense Open Shopping Center, Lorena Tato, and the president of the Association of Urban Property Owners, Pedro Seara, as well as agents of the National, Autonomous and Local Police.
Eladio Santos appealed to the responsibility of the neighbors and visitors so that the festivities could take place "safely and with total normality". To this end, the National and Local Police specified special devices in which the surveillance force will be increased.
Regarding the review of crime statistics, the National Police explained that in the first quarter of the year there was an increase in crimes, but the greatest incidence is in theft and theft inside vehicles. In addition, he added that there is no serious crime in the current quarter in the city and that, beyond quarterly percentages, Ourense remains a safe city. The subdelegate stressed that they are "very positive data with respect to other Spanish cities with a similar number of inhabitants" and explained that in the face of citizen warnings, the National Police and the Local Police carry out special surveillance operations in neighborhoods where there is a greater alarm. As a result of these devices, the number of detainees in these areas was increased. Neighborhood associations appreciated the remarkable police reinforcement on the streets.
Respect for male violence, there are 163 active cases of gender violence in Ourense, 36 less than a year ago. In this regard, Eladio Santos valued the collaboration between the National Police and the Local Police in the framework of the Comprehensive Monitoring System in Cases of Gender Violence (VIOGEN), in which the City of Ourense was integrated this year. He also insisted on the need to apply zero tolerance against male violence, a problem in which society and administrations must be involved.
Educational centers
They also addressed the march of the Master Plan for Coexistence and Improvement of Security in Educational Centers and their Environments, which led 244 activities to the city of Ourense in 2024 on harassment, addictions and violence against women, attended by 13,584 people. At this point, the subdelegate marked as a challenge to achieve greater involvement of families in these conferences, since it is also necessary to have parents and guardians to know the current risks.
