The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, attended the commemorative event of the Day of Galician Letters in which the cantareiras and the Galician oral tradition are honored. He did so, accompanied by the subdelegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, at the Civic and Cultural Center of Malpica, the birthplace of the Pandereteras de Mens and the central stage of the extraordinary and public session of the Royal Galician Academy, promoter of the various activities.
The delegate and the subdelegate highlighted the legacy of the Galician cantareiras and thanked them for their involvement with Galicia and its neighborhood. “All of them are fundamental to give visibility to our culture, our tradition and our people,” added Blanco.
Among the women honored this year are Adolfina and Rosa Casás Rama, originally from Cerceda, as well as Eva Castiñeira, from Muxía, and the renowned Pandereteras de Mens: Manuela Lema, Teresa García Prieto, Prudencia Garrido and Asunción Garrido Ameixenda.
