The Government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, advanced today a new edition of the program ‘Rural Campus’ of the Government in Galicia, which will allow university students to access during this summer paid internships in small municipalities of the four provinces. Pedro Blanco reported that the program currently offers 45 offers of stock exchanges both in public administrations, as well as companies and social entities in rural areas, which can be accessed by students who previously select the three public universities of Galicia.
Pedro Blanco claimed the social utility of this program, which was launched by the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge in the academic year 2021-2022 with the objective of connecting youth with the work reality of the municipalities of the Demographic Challenge and rural areas. The delegate stressed that this initiative allows young people and young people to see that in rural areas there is also innovation and opportunities. At the same time, it qualified as an opportunity for companies, entities and municipalities in these areas, to attract new talent to their projects and initiatives. Pedro Blanco recalled that, in addition, the program requires students to reside in the municipality of the practice for the duration of the practice, which guarantees their immersion in the daily life of the area.
Balance in Galicia
With this year’s, four calls have been launched by the Secretary of State for Demographic Challenge, with the support of the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities and the Conference of Rectors of Spanish Universities (CRUE). In the case of Galicia, the Government signed in each course a specific agreement for the development of the program with the Universidade da Coruña, Santiago and Vigo.
Pedro Blanco reported that 96 university students benefited from the first three calls in Galicia. By province, Ourense was the one that received the highest number of scholarships in these years, with 40 students; followed by Lugo, with 22; Pontevedra with 19 and A Coruña with 15 students. The Government invested more than 400,000 euros to pay for the program in the public universities of Galicia in these first three editions.
Call for 2025
This year’s call for ‘Rural Campus’ is underway in 44 public universities throughout Spain, with an offer reaching 750 places throughout the territory. At the moment, the universities are in the process of selecting scholars and scholarships, and then the deadline will be opened for the selected people to request one of the places offered, which are limited to a specific specialty or study. Students will be able to fill their places from the moment the university to which they belong completes their selection processes, over the next few weeks, and will be able to extend their internships until November 14.
The internships are provided with a financial benefit of 1,000 euros per month, in addition to Social Security expenses and have a duration ranging from two to five months.
