The subdelegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, highlighted the Government’s drive for mobility in Pontedeume and Cabanas when a new phase of the works of improvement of the bridge crossing the Ría de Ares the N-651 road began.
He held a meeting with the mayors of Pontedeume and Cabanas, Bernardo Fernández and Fernando Couce, as well as with those responsible for the Demarcation of Roads of Galicia. Together with them, María Rivas gave an account of the effects on traffic that these improvements are going to bring, “designed so that the daily life of the citizens is as unharmed as possible.”
He stressed the priority of the Ministry of Transport and the concellos that neither morning trips nor school transport in the five centers in the area would be affected, so, from this Wednesday, the works will close one of the lanes of the Ponte between nine in the morning and nine in the night.
Responding also to the request of the mayors, in an exercise of institutional collaboration, María Rivas indicated that during the weekends there will be no traffic cuts on the bridge. The works will be extended until June 20 and it is planned to resume the works after the summer.
In this action, 6.77 million euros (VAT included) are being invested for the improvement and modernization of the bridge structure, including actions such as a new foundation, the replacement and expansion of the board and pedestrian sidewalks or the installation of railings and containment elements of it vehicles.
