The subdelegate of the Government in Ourense, Eladio Santos, on Thursday congratulated the harvesters present at the 62nd edition of the Feira do Viño de Ribadavia for making it possible for the Denomination of Origin of the Ribeiro to be “synonymous with authenticity and prestige, inside and outside our borders”.
During his speech at the inauguration of the Feira do Viño do Ribeiro in Ribadavia, Santos valued the “oldest Denomination of Origin in Galicia”. “We celebrate a very award-winning product, but also a history, a culture and a way of understanding the link with the land,” he said.
The deputy delegate of the Government encouraged neighbors and visitors to enjoy four days of celebration “with responsibility, with joy and with the pride of knowing that the one we celebrate here is the result of centuries of dedication, know-how and passion for ours.” “This is not only an essential event in the national gastronomic calendar, but also a symbol of identity and effort,” he added.
Eladio Santos said that the Government of Spain will continue to support the Galician wine sector. “The objective and care for traditions and our unique product to continue creating employment and to fix population in rural areas,” he said.
In this regard, he recalled that the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food approved this year to transfer to Galicia 1.3 million euros in 18 wine promotion programs in third countries, within the Strategic Plan of the Common Agricultural Policy 2023-2027. Of these funds, he said, the province of Ourense, which has four of the five Denominations of Origin of Galicia, will benefit especially.
