The deputy delegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, highlighted the Government’s impulse to the industry in As Pontes with 86 million euros invested and encouraged companies to present initiatives, through the Just Transition funds, that continue to dynamize the economy of the region. It did so at the opening of the information day on Just Transition grants for companies and entrepreneurs that was held in this municipality, which was held together with the mayor, Valentín González Formoso.
María Rivas highlighted the historic leading role of As Pontes in industrial matters, which she is currently maintaining “after overcoming many challenges to make the leap to clean energies, looking to the future”. The subdelegate highlighted As Pontes’ firm step to move forward, highlighting the role of the Government in this task, in which it has invested 86 million euros since 2019 to promote a total of 33 innovative projects that have generated 110 jobs. This economic item is included within the Just Transition funds, granted by the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge.
“Thanks to this investment by the Government, the region of As Pontes is turning a page in the future, but it does not change the book, since the industry is and will continue to be its cornerstone,” said María Rivas, mentioning that the total of these initiatives has been mobilized 342 million euros, “a figure that comes from the public-private collaboration that this Government claims so much.” This economic attribution affects the region with the estimated creation of more than 60 jobs only in companies, “endowed with good conditions and generating wealth through the industrial fabric of the future” and which are included in the Corunnese municipalities of Cabanas, A Capela, Cerdido, Ferrol, Mañón, Moeche, Monfero, Ortigueira, As Pontes, San Sadurniño and As Somozas, in addition to the lucenses of Muras, Vilalba and Xermade, which are also included in the Tponesa transition area.
With these reasons, the subdelegate encouraged all entrepreneurs and professionals attending these information days to bet on this “leap to the future”, in which the Government “is a firm ally of companies in knowing its importance for the economic and social progress of the territories.” In total, the Ministry has allocated 120 million euros to Galicia since 2019 within this field of industrial modernization, benefiting 47 business projects and generating 415 new jobs.
Commitment to municipalities
“The municipalist nature of the Government of Spain guarantees a fair distribution of these funds for the industrial transition, which leave no territory behind,” said María Rivas, who thanked the mayor for his close collaboration and sensitivity to “maintain in As Pontes one of the points of reference of the Galician industrial sector” through the Just Transition funds and the projects they promote.
