The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, highlighted the intense work of the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility to comply with Ferrol and advance in the humanization works of the avenue of As Pías, which are already in its final stretch. “We are a government committed to the Ferrol region, improving communications but also boosting the naval sector, conserving heritage and promoting sustainable tourism, and we are not going to stop here, because this government is what is important: to return the smile to Ferrol and its neighbors,” said the delegate, who supervised the implementation of the new section between the FE-11 and Marques de Santa Cruz accompanied by the mayor of Ferrol, José Manuel Rey.
Pedro Blanco indicated that with this new milestone, which gives continuity to the stretch inaugurated on March 11 between the Porta Nova and the FE-11 roundabout, “we continue to improve the connectivity of the neighborhoods, so that they do not live backwards from each other as before, and to make a city more human, greener and therefore more pleasant,” said the delegate, who recalled that the investment in the transformation of the main road of entry to Ferrol reaches 11 million euros, financed from the funds of the Government Recovery Plan.
During his speech, the delegate also took the opportunity to congratulate the companies and the staff of Roads for this new milestone, “a work that is an example of how this type of projects should be managed: in an integral way and in permanent collaboration with the City Council and with the affected sectors of the city”, and to highlight that with this action, “an example of urban integration”, the Government “is responding to a historical demand of the neighborhood”.
Second stage of the humanization of As Pías
Today, the stretch of Avenida de las Pías (FE-14) was put into service between the roundabout connecting with the FE-11 Trinchera road and Avenida de Esteiro and the roundabout at the intersection with the axis formed by Avenida Marqués de Santa Cruz and Avenida Salvador Allende Gossens.
It includes in the commissioning of Avenida Marqués de Santa Cruz - Avenida Salvador Allende Gossens and the new roundabout at the intersection of these roads with the FE-14, with which, next to the Nova de Caranza street and the Trinchera FE-11 road, previously opened, the 3 roads that direct traffic perpendicularly to the Avenida de las Pías are restored and that were affected at some point.
The opening of this second section implies compliance with the commitments made by the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility on the sequence of openings to the traffic of the works, consisting of the next phase in the complete opening, pedestrian and vehicular, of the entire itinerary previously affected by the works.
