The Government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, advanced today the culmination in May of the construction work of the new passenger building of ADIF in Santiago, with which “this Government returns to comply with the capital of Galicia and with the integral improvement of its communications”. This was transferred to the mayor of Santiago, Goretti Sanmartín, at a meeting held in the Pazo de Raxoi, which he attended with the general director of Business and Customer of ADIF, Juan Pablo Villanueva.
At the meeting, the delegate confirmed that the terminal news will be called “Santiago Daniel Castelao Station”, which will make “the two main passenger entrances in this city, Rosalía de Castro Airport and Daniel Castelao Station, talk about our history and our culture”, he said.
To highlight this name, the new station will host, on the occasion of its opening, a temporary exhibition on the figure of Castelao. Subsequently, there will be a permanent exhibition of figures and motifs “that extol the personality of Castelao and that will be distributed throughout the public spaces of the station,” added Pedro Blanco.
Together with this project, the meeting analyzed the modification of the parking project, to add 900 spaces available with an investment of 9 million euros. The forecast is that this service will be operational in the summer of 2026.
Commitment fulfilled
The government delegate stressed that the new terminal adds to the set of projects and actions carried out by the government in Santiago, and in which it has the collaboration of the Municipal Government.
After pointing out that “we are advancing on the right the effects of years of traffic jams and paralysis of previous governments”, the delegate detailed some of the works that are transforming mobility, public use of heritage and communications in the capital of Galicia and improving environmental conditions.
Among them, he mentioned the purifying news of the Silvouta, in execution; the future remodeling of the runway of the Rosalía de Castro airport, and the integral reform of the Hostal de los Reis Católica, which was presented this week.
New Travelers Building
The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility invests in the new passenger building of the train station of Santiago 30 million euros through the company ADIF Alta Carretera.
The new building rises above the already existing beach of roads, resting on the platforms with specific supports. It forms a volumetric unit with the pedestrian walkway on tracks, from which it will have access and connect the urban network, the railway station and the bus terminal, improving the current intermodalidade environment for the city of Santiago. For its implementation, the existing platforms were conditioned, establishing a system of vertical connections that links the main lobby, located on a higher level, with the railway use area.
In parallel, ADIF carried out the necessary adaptation works in the old passenger building to adapt it to the connection of Galicia to the high-speed network, allowing Santiago to benefit from the entry into service of this new connection.
