The deputy delegate of the Government in Ourense, Eladio Santos, today celebrated "the determined commitment" of the central Executive for the city of Ourense with the impulse to the "cultural triangle", in allusion to the Public Library Nós, the Provincial Historical Archive and the Archaeological Museum, three transformative infrastructures in which the Government invests more than 46 million euros for the enjoyment of this and the following generations.
This was expressed by the subdelegate in a visit made this morning to the Public Library of the State of Nós on the occasion of Book and Copyright Day. "It is a pleasure to commemorate this day in a place that represents knowledge, access to culture and spaces open to citizens," said Santos, who was accompanied by the director of the center, Rosa Díaz, and by the deputy in the Congress Marga Martín.
He also wanted to remember that this library opened in 2019 after an investment of more than 12 million euros "made it possible for children and adults to enjoy a public place to read, research and learn". To this transformative investment, he explained, are added the 15 million invested in the reform of the old convent of San Francisco that houses the Provincial Historical Archive of Ourense and the more than 19 million destined for the works and content of the Provincial Archaeological Museum, a rehabilitation that is under way. "The government is the administration that invests in this city at a time when unfortunately there is a shortage of cultural activity," said Santos.
Today, April 23, the deputy delegate of the Government stressed, a date is honored that "recognizes the figure of the author and seeks the strengthening of the publishing industry, which enjoys good health in the province of Ourense". According to the Statistics of the Spanish Edition of Books, the number of books registered in ISBN in the province grew by about 77% in 2024, with respect to 2019, the inauguration year of this center and prior to the pandemic, a stage in which the books were "fundamental companions".
