The deputy delegate of the Government, María Rivas, participated this Friday in the gala that, on the occasion of the World Down Syndrome Day, organized in A Coruña the Federation Down Galicia.
The deputy delegate, who took the opportunity to congratulate the recognized individuals and entities and the Down Coruña for its 25th anniversary, pointed out that the Government will continue working to empower this group and accompany it in the defense of its rights so that equal opportunities are real and effective.
In this regard, he recalled measures such as the legal reform to allow more than 100,000 people with intellectual disabilities to exercise their right to vote, or the modification of the Constitution to remove from Article 49 the term ‘diminished’ and substituyl for that of ‘people with disabilities’, “thus putting an end to the terminology that does not reflect either the values of our Constitution or, above all, the dignity of this group of citizens,” he concluded.
