Baiona, March 19, 2025.- The deputy delegate of the Government in Pontevedra, Abel Losada, presided over the Xunta Local de Seguridad in the City of Baiona, in which the agreement of adhesion to the integral system of protection of women victims of gender violence and the protocol of collaboration of the Local Police with the Civil Guard were signed.
“Today is a day to celebrate, because Baiona becomes part of the group of municipalities in this province that are directly involved in the protection of women,” said Losada, who thanked the unanimity of the entire Municipal Corporation, with all the political groups in favor. A recognition that he personified in the mayor, Jesús Almuíña, “who, from the first moment, showed the maximum interest”.
Abel Losada stressed that it gives special satisfaction to the entry of Baiona into the integral system VioGén, “because this municipality has engraved the pain for the murders of Beatriz Lijó in 2023 and Astilla Blach in 2024, two feminicides that shocked us all; so, in a certain sense, we want this also to be a tribute.”
The subdelegate stressed that zero risk never exists: “We live in a society of which violence is part, but it is very clear that the Local Police collaborates with the Civil Guard and we can tell the women of Baiona that they are more accompanied and that there are more resources at their disposal.”
In Baiona there are 12 cases registered in VioGén, of which two are at medium risk, four in low and 8 in unappreciated. Not since 2025, three women have joined the system. Of the total of 12 cases, 7 women have a court order for protection. In addition, a woman has the telephone of the Atempro program to account for possible incidents.
Baiona has received a total of 42,599 euros from the State Pact on Gender Violence since 2018. In the last annuity he received 5,730.44 euros. With its incorporation into VioGén these funds will be increased.
With the signing of the Baiona agreement, there are already 19 municipalities in the province adhering to the system: Bueu, Caldas de Reis, O Grove, Lalín, Marín, Ponteareas, Pontevedra, O Porriño, Redonda, Salceda de Caselas, Sanxenxo, Tui, Vigo, Vilagarcía de Arousa, A Guarda, Moaña, Mos and Baiona. The criterion of the Subdelegation of the Government in Pontevedra is to encourage the incorporation of all municipalities that have a Local Police with four or more agents.
