Poio, March 14, 2025.- The subdelegate of the Government in Pontevedra, Abel Losada inaugurated today, together with the mayor of Poio, Ángel Molde, the rehabilitation and expansion of the old unitary school of Arén, in the parish of Samieira, which will now function as a social center. The work, promoted through the Public Buildings Rehabilitation Program (PIREP) of the Ministry of Transport, had a total investment of 277,000 euros, of which the Government of Spain contributed 158,000 euros.
During the visit, the subdelegate highlighted the importance of this action as an example of the commitment of the Government of Spain to the improvement of public buildings and the revitalization of services in rural Galician areas. “This project demonstrates how the European funds obtained by the Government of Spain are reaching every corner of Galicia and this province, giving new opportunities and life to municipalities and rural parishes; but the most important is that these properties are not empty, but full of people,” said the deputy delegate.
The event was attended by several councilors of the municipal Corporation of different political signs. And also from a large representation of the neighborhood of Samieira, among what there were people who had studied Early Childhood Education in this now rehabilitated property. A building, they stressed, that was never abandoned because after the closure of the school it continued to host neighborhood activities. Now, with the modern facilities, this activity will be strengthened.
Losada congratulated the City Council, both the previous government team, which got the help, and the current one, which executed it, highlighting that “institutional cooperation and also political cooperation resulted in a project very beneficial for the neighborhood.” “Samieira’s neighbours and neighbours now have public equipment to match their needs,” he said.
The new social venue in Arén has three multipurpose rooms, improvements in accessibility, renewed energy efficiency and a more sustainable lighting system. This infrastructure will allow social, cultural and employability activities to be carried out, becoming a fundamental meeting point for the neighborhood.
The subdelegate highlighted the impact of the Recovery Plan of the Government of Spain in municipalities throughout the province of Pontevedra, stressing that the PIREP program has already invested 22.6 million euros in the rehabilitation of public buildings. “This project in Poio is an example of how small municipalities can take advantage of the opportunities offered by the government to transform their reality and improve the quality of life of citizens,” he said.
Finally, Losada expressed his gratitude to the professionals involved in the implementation of the project and reiterated the commitment of the Government of Spain to the modernization of public infrastructures and the promotion of local development.
