The deputy delegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, stressed today that the record investment of the Government in Ferrol is propitiating the greatest urban transformation of the city in recent decades. He did so after presiding today at a new meeting of the commission to follow up the humanization work of Avenida das Pías, where the progress of the reform implemented by the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility was analyzed.
The meeting was attended by the mayor of Ferrol, José Manuel Rey, along with several members of the local government; the head of the Road Demarcation in Galicia, Ángel González del Río, and the director of the work, as well as representatives of the neighborhood groups of the neighborhoods where this performance goes. The current state of the project was not monitored and it was announced that in the coming dates the first stretch of the avenue between A Porta Nova and the FE-11 will be put into service definitively, and before Easter until Marqués de Santa Cruz.
María Rivas framed this work, in which the Government is investing 11 million euros, in the historical commitment of the Government to the city of Ferrol, where it acts on all fronts: in the economy, through naval contracts; in the railway connection of Porto exterior and interior; in the provision of public housing and in the rehabilitation and improvement of the maritime façade thanks to the active role of the Ministry of Defense in the project of ‘Opening Ferrol to the sea’.
Transparency and participation
A subdelegate of the Government stressed that the work of humanization of the Avenida das Pías exemplifies the way the Government is to face those infrastructures that directly affect the life of the citizens. Thus, he recalled that during the execution different communication channels were enabled between the executing company and neighborhood in addition to being a follow-up commission, with the participation of all the groups involved in this project.
María Rivas stressed that As Pías also served as an example for other humanization actions that the Ministry of Transport is undertaking in the province, such as the rehabilitation of the Pontedeume Bridge and the humanization of the Milladoiro crossing, in which similar communication and public participation measures are already under way to facilitate the execution of the works and minimize the interest in citizenship.
“The remodeling of the Pias will transform the physiognomy of the main entrance of the city of Ferrol, creating a boulevard of more than one kilometer in length and connecting at the same level the neighborhoods of the environment, making a city more accessible and friendly to the neighborhood,” said the subdelegate, who stressed that “all the Administrations are working in the same direction and with the same objective, which is none other than to improve the quality of life of the railways and the railways,” she concluded.
