The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, highlighted today in Lugo the government’s drive to turn Galicia into the great axis of the new mobility in the Northwest of Spain. Pedro Blanco supervised the works of the city’s train station, together with the mayor, Paula Alvarellos; the president of the Provincial Council, José Tomé; the general director of Adif Alta Carretera, Juan Pablo Villanueva, and the deputy delegate in the province, Isabel Rodríguez.
With Lugo’s investment of 22.3 million euros, the new intermodal stations in Galician cities add up to an investment of 244 M€ from the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility. The delegate confirmed that the works “are progressing at a good pace” in the railway station of Lucense, allowing to maintain the forecasts of their end in the foreseen deadlines.
“The new Lugo station is part of the commitments made by this Government that will allow Lugo to be in its rightful place, growing and achieving a competitive future through better communication channels,” said Pedro Blanco, who stressed the importance that the Executive of Pedro Sánchez gives to Lugo “by recovering the time lost by the previous administrations and leaving behind its unfulfilled promises, which had this province forgotten and isolated.” In this regard, Pedro Blanco thanked the Minister of Transport, Óscar Puente, for his commitment to this province: “I know of your personal involvement.”
In this regard, the delegate stressed the numerous actions that the Government is developing to boost Lucense mobility, such as the modernization of the railway line that links the city with Ourense, with 600 M€ of investment or the train connection with Santiago. In this regard, the Ministry of Transport works simultaneously on two axes: the completion of the A-54 motorway, which will be completed later this year, and the connection through the train, on which this week the feasibility study was awarded.
In addition, the Government focuses on the maintenance of infrastructures, as is the case of the A-6, in which it is going to allocate more than 30 million euros to continue advancing in the increase of security through the repairs of its firm. They add to the 20 million already executed, so the Government will exceed the 50 million destined for the conditioning of this motorway, only in Lugo.
Adif's performances at the Lucense station
The new station of Lugo will transform the mobility of the city and will respond to the increase of travelers by the renewal of the line Lugo-Ourense, which connects the capital of Lucense with high speed. They are investing €22.3 million in an action that includes a new passenger building, the adaptation of the platform area, a mixed lower pass for passenger use and for public use, a pedestrian walkway and the urbanization of the environment, being integrated into an intermodal square that will connect the railway and bus terminals.
Currently the push is being executed under the tracks of the lower pass of double functionality: access to the central platform and use as a pedestrian city pass. This action includes the works, already carried out, of the aping of the 4 tracks of the station, necessary to carry out the thrust of the lower passage, built in concrete previously in the annexed area. Through this constructive process of aping and pushing, the works can be made compatible without interrupting rail traffic. In addition, once the old Post Office building has been demolished, the construction work of the new Station building is progressing at a good pace, with the execution of the structure on the ground floor and the upper floor.
