The subdelegate of the Government in Pontevedra, Abel Losada, who has already visited the Naval Command of the Miño on several occasions, attended the invitation of its head, the commander Andrés Díaz Ripoll, to check the impact of the invasive plant egeria densa, popularly known as labaza, on the bed of the river Miño.
The subdelegate of the Government undertook to transfer the information to the department responsible for the Natural Heritage Service of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change of the Xunta de Galicia. In this regard, he indicated that he would support an initiative for this department of the Xunta to promote a European project, in collaboration with the authorities of Portugal, to act against these invasive species.
Losada also stressed that he maintains permanent contact with the Provincial Service on his back to attend to the state competences that have to do with the erosion and possible dredging of different sections of the river. This respect indicated that a study of river dynamics is being prepared by CEDEX, the technical agency dependent on the Ministry of Transport that carries out this type of analysis, before making decisions.
The deputy delegate also wanted to highlight the important work of Díaz Ripoll at the head of this Command, “ensuring at all times the economic productivity of the river and its environmental sustainability.”
