The Maritime Captaincy of Burela, under the General Directorate of the Merchant Navy of the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, has opened in 2024 a total of 10 sanctioning files on recreational boats, jet skis, fishing boats and merchants for infractions against maritime safety, mostly.
Thus, 257 inspections have been carried out on national and international vessels and vessels for the control of maritime safety and the prevention of pollution of the marine environment, as well as inspections of a large number of fishing vessels relating to the new Convention 188 of the International Labour Organization, which regulates the protection of the rights of workers in the fishing industry.
In addition, inspections have been carried out on maritime training centres, radio installation companies, life-raft stations and pilotage examinations for the different ports of the maritime province.
He has also directed a total of 64 maritime emergency actions developed by the Rescue and Maritime Safety staff, SASEMAR. Among them, the fence of the merchant ship ALBYZ in the Ribadeo estuary stands out, or the dismantling of the fishing vessel Nuevo Libertad in an area of rocks and cliffs in the vicinity of Rinlo.
Along with these actions, the captaincy has developed an intense administrative activity in the year 2024, related to the registration and dispatch of ships or the management of professional titles and certificates. Specifically, in 2024, a total of 1,286 offices were managed and more than 5,200 enroles and unroles in that maritime province.
