The Secretary General of the Subdelegation of the Government in Ourense, Manuel Arias, and the Mayor of Xinzo de Limia, Amador Díaz, co-chaired the Local Security Board in which the security device was coordinated for the next celebration of the carnival, while analyzing the situation of citizen security in the municipality, cases of gender violence and the Master Plan for Coexistence in schools.
In relation to the Carnival, one of the most marked and participatory festivities in the region, to the members of the Civil Guard and Local Police who will ensure security, four vigilantes will be hired by the City Council. The Civil Guard announced at the meeting that it will increase surveillance cameras in the area, starting on Petardazo Day, which will be the starting point of the celebrations on February 8, and will intensify alcohol and drug controls on the roads.
In addition, Xinzo will have a violet spot throughout the Carnival, to prevent sexual assaults or cases of violence against women who participate in the various activities. Its personnel will be coordinated with the security forces and bodies and a part of it, duly identified, will also remain on the streets so that anyone who needs it can go to it.
Regarding citizen security, among the data presented at this local board, it was noted that in 2024 there was an increase in crimes against heritage in Xinzo. And with regard to gender violence, of the 536 cases currently active in the province, 24 correspond to the City of Xinzo, in 19 of which the aggressor has a ban on approaching and communicating with the victim.
In addition, the meeting also reviewed the preventive actions framed in the implementation of the Master Plan for Coexistence and Improvement of Security in Educational Centers and in their environments, highlighting the great participation of students in the organized activities, but maintaining as a challenge to achieve greater involvement of the ANPAS.
Also, in this field, the Local Police of Xinzo put in value the figure of its mediating agent, who intervenes in the search for the resolution of interpersonal conflicts between the kids, which sometimes reach the educational environment.
The meeting was also attended by representatives of the Xunta de Galicia; Civil Guard, Local Police, Civil Protection and Firefighters of Xinzo; as well as the head of the Violence against Women Unit of the Government Subdelegation, Alida Iglesias.
