The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, highlighted the commitment of the Government of Spain to the conservation and enhancement of the historical heritage of Galicia, in which it adds an investment of 13 million euros through the 2% Cultural Program. This plan is implemented by the Ministries of Housing and Urban Agenda and the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility.
“The impact of the 2% Cultural Program in Galicia shows the interest of the Government for the recovery of the Galician heritage,” said Pedro Blanco, who stressed the importance of this initiative beyond the monumental complexes themselves, “since it generates economic activity and employment in both urban and rural spaces, deepening the commitment to the small municipalities of this Government and promoting sustainable and quality tourism.”
Galicia had so far ten projects benefited by the 2% Cultural Program, with about 8 million euros, to which four more by 4.9 million were added this December. They correspond to the restoration of the roof and the integral rehabilitation of the Tower of the Andrade, in Pontedeume (273,386.75 euros); of the Clock Tower of the Cathedral of Santiago (1,841,817.15 euros); of the botanical garden and the carballeira of Caldas de Reis (569,562.34 euros) and the proposal for the creation of a historical cathedral and diocesan archive in Tui, precisely on the 800th anniversary of the consecration of the temple.
Tui, which already obtained funds from this initiative (600,000 euros) for the musealization of its cathedral complex in the previous call, will again benefit from the investment of the Government, as does Santiago de Compostela, where the 2% Cultural Program also allocated in the last resolution a total of 1.15 million for the Mosteiro of San Martiño Pinario.
