The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, highlighted the contribution of Benigna Peña, president of the hospital and the Sano Rafael foundation of A Coruña, to the health leadership of A Coruña and Galicia. He did so during his speech at the award ceremony of the Business Leadership Award granted by the Confederation of Businessmen of A Coruña (CEC) and which recognizes the work of entrepreneurs who contribute to the economic and social development of the territory. The event was also attended by the subdelegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas.
Benigna Peña is the businesswoman honored in this edition, which Pedro Blanco put as an example of “true leadership: the people who inspire us to move forward, to create a better world, and who do it, moreover, from discretion and humility.” In this sense, he recalled that the honoree “always showed humility and discretion, attributing the merit to others, both of its courageous and innovative decisions and of the results achieved by them.”
Benigna Peña founded in the 60s of the last century the Hospital Sano Rafael together with his man, Dr. Rafael Hervada, a hospital that, as the delegate pointed out, was a pioneer in incorporating advances in management and machinery that were not within the reach of other national centers “and from which many generations of Coruñeses benefited and benefit.”
Pedro Blanco pointed out that the Government shares “point by point” the dream that gave birth and growth to Sano Rafael, that health care is human and that it has the best services and the best professionals to dispense it to the population as a whole.
Finally, he congratulated the winner, represented at the event by his nephew Javier Peña, and the Confederation of Businessmen of A Coruña, with its president Antonio Fontenla at the head, “for giving us every year examples of leaders who inspire to make a better world and a better Galicia”.
