Transportes meets with the Xunta and the Concello de Ferrol to coordinate the new affectations to the traffic by the works in the Avenida de As Pías

At a meeting chaired by the Government’s sub-delegate in A Coruña, María Rivas The next phases of restrictions and the sequence of openings to the traffic of the works until their completion have been agreed. It is planned to temporarily open the route of the FE-14 during the Christmas period to facilitate mobility.

The Deputy Delegate of Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, and representatives of the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility have held a coordination meeting today with the Xunta de Galicia, the Concello de Ferrol, neighborhood representatives, Navantia and adjudicating companies to agree on the next restrictions and the phases to proceed to the sequential opening to pedestrian and road transits of the works of Humanization of the Avenue of As Pías, which executes the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility under the Next Plan of Recovery, Transformation and Resilience.

The phases agreed between the parties will be the following:

  • Currently, the FE-14 is cut off from traffic, there being a rolled by-pass for the connection of Nova de Caranza Street and the new roundabout executed in the FE-11 and a pedestrian by-pass in the surroundings of the future roundabout of Nova de Caranza Street.
  • From December 2 to 20, 2024, the paving of the new roundabout of Nova de Caranza Street and connections to the adjacent streets will be carried out, which will force the current by-pass to close. The pedestrian crossing of the FE-14 will be replaced in the immediate vicinity of the new roundabout in execution, in the definitive position of one of the zebra crossings.
  • On December 20, 2024, the reopening of Nova de Caranza Street and the temporary opening of the section of the new FE-14 between A Porta Nova and the FE-11 will take place, to road traffic during the Christmas period. The pedestrian crossing of the FE-14 will be maintained in the vicinity of the roundabout of Nova de Caranza Street, with passage regulated by traffic lights. This configuration will be maintained until January 12, 2025.
  • On January 13, 2025, the FE-14 will be closed to traffic, to finish the paving, installation and finishing works. On the same date, traffic will be cut from Avenida Marqués de Santa Cruz and Avenida Salvador Allende Gosséns, to proceed to the extension of the rolling layer on this axis and in the section of the FE-14 between the 2 roundabouts at the intersections with the Trinchera FE-11 and Avenida Marqués de Santa Cruz, as well as repair work on the latter, previously opened as a temporary detour.

  • At the end of February 2025, the complete pedestrian and road reopening of Avenida Marqués de Santa Cruz and the FE-14 from A Porta Nova to Avenida Marqués de Santa Cruz is planned.
