Caldas de Reis, October 22, 2024.- The subdelegate of the Government in Pontevedra, Abel Losada, today valued the effort of the Government in favor of the conservation and maintenance of the state road network in the province of Pontevedra. On a visit to the N-640 in Caldas de Reis, the subdelegate reported on the 3 million euros that the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility is going to allocate to the conditioning of 8.6 kilometers in the accesses to the thermal village by this national road.
Losada stressed the importance of this investment “to strengthen and improve the conditions of the firm in several sections of a road with a lot of traffic that covers this municipality”. Thus, he said that the contract is currently in the bidding phase and that, once awarded, it is expected to be executed during the spring or summer of next year taking advantage of the best weather conditions.
The deputy delegate, accompanied in the visit by the mayor, Juan Manuel Rey, and by the deputy mayor, Jacobo Pérez, approached one of the points of action in the parish of Segade, where he pointed out that the project is part of a package of three contracts for 32.8 million euros (VAT included) in which firm reused and sustainable will be used. This measure succeeds in renovating the pavements of the State Road Network, strengthening traffic conditions and road safety, while advancing the objective of reducing the environmental footprint.
This initiative responds to the Ministry’s objective of decarbonizing and promoting the sustainability of the road network. In this first phase, N-640 was selected as it passed through Caldas, with the expectation that in future contracts improvements will be made in other points. The contract is part of the EFAPAVES (Efficient Asphalt Pavements) program, a comprehensive project that seeks to improve road safety, ensure the durability of infrastructures and reduce the environmental footprint of the transport sector in line with the decarbonization and sustainability objectives promoted by the Ministry of Transport.
In parallel with this intervention, Abel Losada recalled that Transportes has already begun to mobilize the 8.73 million euros directed to national road conservation works in the northern part of the province. In this case, the intervention contemplates various conservation and maintenance actions on the 167.4 km that cross the counties of Deza-Tabeirós -#Terra de Montes and Arousa-Ullán. The Ministry is awarding these works in batches to repair different sections of the national road, although due to the characteristics of the works, the measure that the weather conditions allow will be undertaken.
