The subdelegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, visited this morning the IES Adormideras of A Coruña, to present the initiative “Regueifando en equality” that is framed within the program of activities around November 25, International Day for the eradication of violence against women.
Specifically, this activity in the IES Adormideras, is the result of collaboration between institutions in the search for synergies to work for real equality and to approach youth; being organized by the subdelegation in collaboration with the Department of Social Welfare, Participation and Equality of the City of A Coruña.
During her speech, the subdelegate expressed the firm commitment of the Government in the search for a more just and egalitarian society, free of male violence, so she insisted on the need to work on these values with young people pointing out the advisability of bringing this type of activities to the educational environment, trying to seek their involvement and complicity.
This activity in favor of equality mixes the use of music and our language, in an expression of culture as traditional as regueifa. “A good mix to be used as a tool to raise awareness about equality and the fight against gender violence,” said the deputy delegate.
Rivas indicated that “from the administrations we have to do everything in our power to work for equality and fight against all kinds of violence, especially to put the emphasis on the field of prevention, especially in childhood and adolescence since it is time to provide girls and boys with the tools to know, detect and face possible situations of violence; that if they occur they will mark their entire existence”.
This is one of the motivations of the workshops: to provide students with new discursive tools through oral improvisation, so that they can face the different daily situations from gender equality, respect for diversity and the fight against gender violence, while favoring the conservation of regueifa, as a figure of the Galician oral tradition.
The workshops began yesterday at the IES Fernando Blanco den Cee, with the participation of the students of the basic VET and 2nd ESO courses; today at the IES Adormideras in A Coruña with 2nd ESO students, and next week at the IES Punta Candieira in Cedeira with the students of 4th and basic VET.
In this way “Regueifando en Igualada” will reach more than 150 students between 12 and 16 years of age from these three educational centers in the province.
The activity is directed by the regueifeira and panderetera, Lupe Blanco. In each session the students live in first person to demonstrate a regueifa and delve into the history of regueifa and oral improvisation around the world. Likewise, the role of women in the regueifa and the transition from “machismo, traditional” to the “improvised dialectical dispute of S.XXI” is emphasized. The workshops are dynamic and participatory. In them the student learns to build a regueifa and ends up improvising compositions as a team.
“Regueifando en Igualacion” is part of a broad program of activities carried out by the subdelegation of the Government in A Coruña with which it is intended to bring information and the institution closer to the citizens, placing special emphasis on connecting with young people.
In this regard, workshops on affective and sexual education are being held in educational centres, and a campaign was also carried out on social networks to raise awareness of the trafficking and exploitation of women, girls and boys for the purpose of sexual exploitation.
