The subdelegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, today invited all the citizens of the province to join the programming designed by the Subdelegation of the Government on the occasion of the 25N and which she described as the “most ambitious and extensive” of those organized by this institution around the International Day against Violence against Women. The presentation took place this morning at the headquarters of the Subdelegation, on the occasion of the beginning of the workshops “Regueifando en Equality”, one of the actions of this program aimed at promoting equality among the youth of different secondary schools in the province through the use of regueifa (improvised dialectical dispute).
These workshops will be held in three schools in the province: on October 15, at the IES ‘Fernando Blanco’ of Cee; on October 16, at the IES ‘Adormideras’ of A Coruña; and on October 24 at the IES ‘Punta Candieria’ of Cedeira. The activity will be directed by the regueifeira Lupe Blanco, who improvised during the presentation an improvised dialectical dispute.
Precisely, he chose as the leiv motiv of his song the commemoration of the International Day of the Girl Child, which is celebrated today, October 11. Along with her, the mayor of Cee, Margot Lamela; the mayor of Cedeira, Pablo Moreda, and the councilor for Equality of A Coruña, Nereida Canosa, also attended. Representatives of the directorates of the three participating schools also participated.
The deputy delegate was accompanied by the head of the Violence against Women Unit of A Coruña, Manuela Vilaboy. María Rivas stressed that the fight against male violence and the promotion of equality are priority tasks for the Subdelegation, which “extend 365 days a year”, and framed this programming in this daily commitment towards the elimination of violence against women.
The subdelegate insisted that all these activities aim to contribute to the visibility of the multiple forms of violence against women, girls and boys as well as provide tools for reflection and debate around the perception that we as a society have of it, “at a time when denial discourses and hoaxes are making possible the perception of a certain setback that as a society we cannot afford”.
Three months of programming
The actions designed around 25N extend from last September to the end of November, and will impact the entire province, with special attention to the youngest population. All of them, recalled the subdelegate, respond to the objectives and principles of the State Pact against Gender Violence.
The activities began on September 20, with the campaign on social networks against the sexual exploitation and trafficking of women, girls and children, entitled “Sexual exploitation is violence”. They also began the cycle of sexual affective education workshops, taught by the entity specialized in child and youth abuse AMINOGAL. The first one was held last week at the CPI ‘Castro Baxoi’ in Miño, and will be repeated on October 21 and 28 at the IES ‘Xulián Magariños’ in Negreira.
Dissemination days
Two days will be held to raise awareness and disseminate public measures and resources available to victims of gender-based violence. The first will be on October 10 at the Faculty of Educational Sciences of Santiago. The second, which will take place in Santiso on the 29th of this month, will be specifically aimed at rural women. In both activities, representatives of the State Security Forces and Corps will speak, as well as the head of the Violence against Women Unit of the Subdelegation.
Workshops for professionals
It is also planned to carry out two training activities aimed at professionals from women’s information centres, State security forces and bodies, social services, associations working in prevention or with victims of male violence, and which aim to address new aspects, with the aim of raising awareness, providing tools and creating spaces for the exchange of knowledge.
The first day is entitled ‘Mourning and personality disorders in victims of gender violence’, given by social worker Pilar Rey and psychologists Luisa Kirmayer and Beatriz Piñeiro Gulín, will take place on November 18 at the Social Insertion Center ‘Carmela Arias and Díaz de Rábago’, in A Coruña. The second day will be about ‘The regime of visits in cases of violence against women’ and will be in charge of Judge Sonia Rey Salgueiro, and will be held on November 29.
Disclosure actions
A new radio workshop against gender violence will be held, which will have one more year as protagonists to the users of the Social Insertion Center ‘Carmela Arias and Díaz de Rábago’. The Subdelegation of the Government in A Coruña will continue with awareness-raising activities in two lines.
The first line is addressed to the 93 municipalities of the province, to which 2,500 copies of the informative materials on the system of follow-up by telematic means of the prohibitions of approximation imposed on matters of gender violence and sexual violence will be distributed; the telephone service 016; the telephone service of Attention and Protection for victims of violence against women (ATENPRO), and the app ALERTCOPS. The second line uses reading as a form of dissemination, through MAVI (the travelling suitcase against gender violence). This campaign has already covered 11 municipalities and 2 entities in the province of A Coruña, and will reach the municipalities of Fene and Camariñas during this quarter.
María Rivas recalled that December 28 marks the 20th anniversary of the Organic Law on Comprehensive Protection Measures against Gender Violence, which is why the subdelegation of A Coruña will promote a meeting with experts to analyze how society has advanced in the field of equality and in the fight against male violence, after the promulgation of a law that was a pioneer and reference for equality policies. Finally, as in previous years, in the week of November 25, the headquarters of the Government Subdelegation will show, on its facade, a banner in rejection of gender violence.
