The subdelegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, presided today in Ribeira the event organized by the National Police Station on the occasion of the Police Festivity, in which she pointed out as security challenges the reinforcement of the culture of prevention against the effects of cybercrime and the protection of sexual freedoms and of women victims of male violence.
Regarding cybercrime, the subdelegate warned of a 20% growth in the computer scams that were committed in the City of Ribeira between January and June of this year. To reverse this trend, he stressed the promotion of a culture of security in all sectors, including business and institutional, since “anyone can be a victim of these organizations.”
To this reality he added the fight against crimes that attack sexual freedoms, especially violence against women. A task in which, he recalled, we use “all the weapons that the rule of law gives us, with the objective that no woman suffer harassment, exploitation, threats or aggression due to the fact of being a woman”. María Rivas recalled the woman murdered this year in Ribeira by male violence, reaffirming the commitment to the eradication “of this scourge that takes us back in democracy”.
In her speech, the subdelegate highlighted the effort made by the National Police to get closer to the citizens, and become a reference and proximate security force. A work that continues and that extends to messages, to communication and even to infrastructures: “Ribeira is an example of this, with its new police station, more accessible and adapted to the needs of this town,” he said.
In this closeness, María Rivas highlighted the work carried out by the Ribeira Police Station through the Greater Security Plan and the School Coexistence Master Plan, as well as the permanent cooperation relationship maintained by the Ribeira Police Station and Local Police. He called this collaboration an “example of joint work between police forces based on trust and mutual respect.” Precisely, at today’s event, the Commissariat paid tribute to the Local Police of Ribeira in recognition of this joint work.

The event was held at the Casa del Mar in Ribeira and was also attended by the mayor of the town, Luis Pérez, the head of the Provincial Police Station of A Coruña, Carlos Gómez, and the head of the Local Police Station of Ribeira, Diego Amaya.
